Pitch fork: a novel tactile digital musical instrument
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pitch Fork is a prototype of an alternate, actuated digital musical instrument (DMI). It uses 5 infra-red and 4 piezoelectric sensors to control an additive synthesis engine. Iron bars are used as the physical point of contact in interaction with the aim of using this materials natural acoustic properties as a control signal for aspects of the digitally produced sound. This choice of material was also chosen to affect player experience. Sensor readings are relayed to a Macbook via an Arduino Mega. Mappings and audio output signal is carried out with Pure Data Extended.

The relation of space and musical pitch in the brain
Numerous experiments show that space and musical pitch are closely linked in people's minds. However, the exact nature of space-pitch associations and their neuronal underpinnings are not well understood. In an fMRI experiment we investigated different types of spatial representations that may underlie musical pitch. Participants judged stimuli that varied in spatial height in both the visual a...
متن کاملDevelopment of Voice Pitch Control System Using Two Dimensional Tactile Display for the Deafblind or the Hearing Impaired Persons
Deafblind or the hearing impaired persons have great difficulty with controlling their voice pitch because they cannot perceive own voice. In particular, when singing it is very difficult for them to control their voice pitch because they need take effort to maintain a stable tone. In this research, a voice pitch control system was developed to assist their singing by means of a two dimensional...
متن کاملAcoustical analysis of woodwind musical instruments for virtual instrument implementation by physical modeling
In the present paper, we present the development of a framework of methodologies, which allow the creation of acoustic analysis, by woodwind musical instrument recordings corpora, as well as the implementation of virtual instruments, by physical modeling. We emphasize on traditional instruments, starting with the zournas. By analysis, acoustical aspects of the instrument are derived (attack-rel...
متن کاملEvaluation of voice pitch control in songs with different melodies using tactile voice pitch feedback display
It is difficult for the deafblind or the hearing impaired to control the pitch of their voice, because they cannot perceive it. In particular, it is very difficult for them to control their voice pitch when singing, because they need to maintain a stable tone. We have developed a voice pitch control system to assist their singing by means of a tactile display. In a previous study, two deafblind...
متن کاملAuditory-Tactile Interaction Using Digital Signal Processing In Musical Instruments
This paper lays emphasis on research that gives an insight to the auditory-tactile perception in electronic musical instruments (here, electronic violin) stating that most traditional musical instruments inherently convey tactile feedback to the performer along with the auditory feedback which leads to a tight performer-instrument relationship which is not found in electronic musical instrument...
